Accuracy

We publish what we can substantiate. Facts are checked against primary sources — documents, records, data, and named people — before publication, not after. Where a fact cannot be confirmed, it is either omitted or clearly attributed as a claim, with the claimant named.

Fairness

Anyone subject to significant criticism is given a fair opportunity to respond before publication, and their response is represented accurately. We do not publish partial quotations that change the meaning of what was said.

Objectivity

Reporting is separated from opinion. Analysis and commentary are labelled as such, and the writer's relevant interests are disclosed. We describe disputes as disputes, and set out the strongest version of each position rather than a convenient one.

Editorial independence

No advertiser, sponsor, communications client, funder, or partner has any influence over what we publish, when, or how. Commissioned and sponsored content is labelled unambiguously and is produced outside the editorial team. Communications clients are disclosed where they are the subject of our reporting.

Transparency

We identify our sources wherever it is safe and lawful to do so. Anonymity is granted only where a source faces a real risk and the information is in the public interest; the reason for anonymity is explained to readers. Funding of research and sponsored work is stated in the publication itself.

Fact checking

Every publication passes through a verification step before release: sources re-checked, figures recalculated, quotations confirmed against recordings or notes, and images verified for origin and date. Investigations undergo an additional legal and editorial review.

Ethical reporting

• We do not obtain material by deception except where the public interest is substantial and no other method is available, and then only with senior editorial approval.
• We take particular care with children, victims of crime, bereaved families, and vulnerable participants in research, and we obtain informed consent.
• We do not accept payment, gifts, or hospitality that could reasonably be seen to influence coverage.
• We respect privacy, and intrude only where there is a clear public interest justification.
• We do not publish material that incites hatred, violence, or discrimination.

Use of artificial intelligence

AI tools may assist with research, transcription, translation, and data analysis. They do not make editorial decisions, and no material is published without human verification. Where AI is used to generate or substantially alter an image, video, or dataset presented to readers, this is disclosed.

Corrections and complaints

Errors are corrected promptly and visibly. A correction states what was wrong, what is correct, and the date of the change; significant corrections are noted on the original item. Complaints can be sent through the contact form and are handled by the Editorial Board, which holds final authority.

Contributions

Contributors may submit original articles through the editorial portal. All submissions undergo editorial review for quality, relevance, and compliance with this policy. Submission does not guarantee publication, and we do not publish material that has appeared elsewhere without disclosure.
